I saw this article, and it made me happy for the little girl, who will have a normal name. It made me think of the people I've met and my family members have met with "strange" names. Also, celebrities have been naming their children with weird names, too.
So.... my question is..... Do you have a "weird" name, or do you know of anyone with "weird" names?

Judge: Girl's name, Talula Does The Hula, won't do Thu Jul 24, 5:41 AM ET

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - A family court judge in New Zealand has had enough with parents giving their children bizarre names here, and did something about it.

Just ask Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. He had her renamed.
Judge Rob Murfitt made the 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so that her name could be changed, he said in a ruling made public Thursday. The girl was involved in a custody battle, he said.
The new name was not made public to protect the girl's privacy.
"The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name," he wrote. "It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily."
The girl had been so embarrassed at the name that she had never told her closest friends what it was. She told people to call her "K" instead, the girl's lawyer, Colleen MacLeod, told the court.
In his ruling, Murfitt cited a list of the unfortunate names.
Registration officials blocked some names, including Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter "and tragically, Violence," he said.
New Zealand law does not allow names that would cause offense to a reasonable person, among other conditions, said Brian Clarke, the registrar general of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Clarke said officials usually talked to parents who proposed unusual names to convince them about the potential for embarrassment.

I guess my name's kind of odd. Some people find it odd anyway.
My name is Haze. It's not short for anything and it is not a nickname.
There are people that insist on adding a letter and a subsequent syllable because they just cannot accept the fact that my name is H.A.Z.E.
Now if you really want to crawl under my skin, go on and add a letter.
Still: I have total sympathy for the child named in the article. That's just bad form. The parents should have had some common sense. I also applaud the judge for taking this action on the girl's behalf.
1The judge definately had a point....but then there are some people who can carry unique names. Some problem names are pretty obvious though!
2There are some unique names I like (Sunday, River, Autumn, etc..) however the ones listed by the Judge should definitely be banned; those poor children...
My name is not "out-there", I never had any issues with it. When I have children I like names such as: Chloe, McKenzie, Sophia, Emma, Bailey and Rebecca. For boys: Tristian, Jacob, Ryan, Logan and William. For a middle name it would be a family name that I feel represents the child. I have always liked the names Azure, Easton and Luca however those would be possible middle names.
3Forgot to mention that parents would give their children such "unique" (more like horrible) names, must be on drugs or something. I mean, why would you want to torture your child with such a name. People like that anger me. Seriously, like the people in China that wanted to name their kid "@" who in their right mind would give their child the "at" symbol for a name!
4I like your name Haze,it is original and sounds good too!
5Kimanne. Thank you. I actually have to thank my grandmother for it. My parents were going to name me after her and she has always hated her name. As the story goes she interceded and suggested Rachel. My parents didn't like that so she started calling me HazeyDaze. The Haze-part stayed.
